Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province received about 175,000 visitors to its four national 5A-level scenic areas during the five-day May Day holiday which ended on Tuesday, according to the Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
Tourism revenue generated in the four 5A-level scenic areas during the period, including the Lingshan Mountain Scenic Area, CCTV's Wuxi Movie and TV Production Base, and Yuantouzhu Scenic Area, totaled over 9.66 million yuan ($1.36 million). May 2 was the busiest day, with about 48,600 visitors.
All of the scenic areas took stringent COVID-19 control measures, including requiring online reservations for tours and limiting the number of visitors to prevent overcrowding, according to officials.
Tourists were required to have their temperatures checked, show a health code upon arrival and wear masks during their visit.

Wangjiang Park, Lingshan Mountain Scenic Area and the Sea of Bamboo Park in Yixing were reported as the most popular outdoor destinations. Many visitors also enjoyed outdoor activities and beautiful natural scenery along popular walking paths, including the rainbow-colored foot path at Gonghuwan Wetland Park.
During the holiday, cultural venues in Wuxi organized various online activities. Thousands of readers took part in the book club organized by Wuxi Library. The Wuxi Museum and Wuxi Cultural Institution also promoted online classes for culture enthusiasts.
The tourism industry rebounded after travel restrictions were relaxed following the dwindling number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
