A medical team from east China’s Jiangsu province has arrived in Caracas, capital of Venezuela. The team of 8 front-line experts from Jiangsu will help contain the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic in the South American country.
The medical team consists of doctors from the province’s top hospitals such as the Provincial People's Hospital, the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Soochow University No. 1 Hospital, the Provincial CDC and the Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing.
The experts specialize in infectious disease control, laboratory testing and respiratory and critical disease sciences.
Huang Mao, director of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of the Provincial People's Hospital, is appointed head of the team of experts.
Huang is also head of the expert team on the medical treatment of COVID-19 under the Jiangsu Provincial Health Committee.
The expert team will help Venezuela to assess the overall situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, share experiences on COVID-19 prevention and control and provide targeted advice on diagnosis and treatment.
Depending on conditions, the team will also provide medical guidance and assistance to the Chinese-funded enterprises, the Chinese students and overseas Chinese in Venezuela.
The expert group carried with them anti-epidemic materials and medicines such as ventilator, portable color Doppler ultrasound, nucleic acid detection kits, medical protective masks, protective clothing, and isolation clothing.
