6700 ml of convalescent plasma donated by patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia or COVID-19 in Jiangsu were transported from Nanjing to Wuhan Saturday morning to help cure more critically ill patients. This is the third time that Jiangsu has assisted Hubei with convalescent plasma in the fight against COVID-19.

The plasma was donated by recovered patients in Nanjing, Huaian, Wuxi, Suzhou, Changzhou, Yangzhou, Suqian, and Xuzhou.

The Jiangsu Blood Center put the plasma under strict inspection, check and disinfection before sending it to the Huaining Toll Station on the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, where the plasma was handed over to the staff of Wuhan Blood Center.

On February, the blood center in Nantong and four other cities of Jiangsu sent 3550 ml of plasma donated by recovered patients to Huangshi city, Hubei Province.

On March 6, the blood center in Zhenjiang sent 1000 ml of plasma to Huangshi.

Altogether, Jiangsu has donated 11250 ml of convalescent plasma to assist Hubei in the fight against COVID-19.

China started to offer convalescent plasma therapy for clinical treatment of critically ill COVID-19 patients in early February.

The first dose of convalescent plasma from a COVID-19 patient was collected on Feb. 1 and the first severely ill patient received the treatment at a hospital in Wuhan, capital of virus-hit Hubei Province, on Feb. 9.

The plasma therapy has proved safe and effective.
