Jiangsu medical teams return home in triumph

Doctors and nurses sent to Hubei province by Jiangsu to aid the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic or COVID-19 have returned home in triumph. The first batch of 709 medical workers from Jiangsu arrived at Nanjing Lukou Airport Tuesday afternoon. 

Commissioned by the Provincial Party Secretary Lou Qinjian and Governor Wu Zhenglong, Ren Zhenhe, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee, and Fan Jinlong, executive vice-governor and member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, greeted doctors and nurses at the airport.

The 709 doctors and nurses are from 151 hospitals in the 12 prefectural cities and 10 provincial hospitals like the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital and Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

They arrived in Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus outbreak, on January 27, January 28, February 4, February 9, February 10 and February 21.

They were tasked with treating the confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the No. 1 People's Hospital of Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, the mobile cabin hospital in Wuhan Sports Center and the mobile cabin hospital in Jiangxia District, Wuhan City. 

Ge Ninghai, director of the 5th Jiangsu team sent to aid Hubei,which said,Jiangsu's medical staff carried forward the spirit of honoring life selfless dedication, love without borders showing the speed of Jiangsu,highlighting the strength of Jiangsu,reflecting the temperature of Jiangsu ,so that they have won recognition for Jiangsu.

China will conduct a phased withdrawal of medical workers sent to aid medical treatment in Hubei province, the center of the coronavirus outbreak, in another sign that the epidemic has been brought under control in the country and its hardest hit region.

The announcement was made at a meeting of the leading group of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on coping with the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak chaired by Premier Li Keqiang on Monday.

The withdrawal of medical workers from Hubei province must be conducted in an orderly manner and on the condition that severe cases have received high-level treatment and normal medical services have been resumed in the province, said a statement issued after the meeting.

China sent 346 medical teams and more than 42.6 thousand medical workers to help with the medical treatment in Hubei province, an official with the National Health Commission said on March 8.

It noted that China has seen a sustained positive momentum of epidemic containment and the spread of the outbreak has been brought under control in general.
