The city of Nanjing has taken scientific and active measures to curb cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia being imported from overseas as the epidemic continues to worsen internationally.
At a news conference held on Monday, Huangpu Zhaohui, an official with the city’s foreign affairs office, said that strict measures to be adopted on entry-exit epidemic control include requiring the inbound travelers to submit a declaration of health and screening all the inbound travelers with pandemic symptoms.
The municipal working team on the prevention of the imports of infection has shared information with foreign embassies and consulates, foreign-invested enterprises in Nanjing, foreign business associations, and foreign students in order to strengthen the prevention and control of virus infection from inbound travelers, he added.
Huangpu Zhaohui, deputy director, Nanjing foreign affairs office
We have prioritized the prevention
of imported cases from inbound travelers
in the current epidemic prevention and control
We have installed checkpoints
at the two railway stations in Nanjing
and the airports in Beijing and Shanghai
so as to transfer the returnees
from hard-hit countries
for monitoring and screening
The confirmed and suspected cases
the close contacts and people
with abnormal temperatures or unusual symptoms
will be sent to designated hospitals
for treatment
Other returnees from overseas
will be required to isolate themselves
at home or designated places for 14 days.
Huangpu noted that stricter management will be adopted for concentrated medical observation sites holding inbound travelers whether they are foreign visitors or Chinese nationals returning from overseas.
He also cautioned Nanjing students studying overseas to strengthen self-protection and keep track of the pandemic trends in the countries where their universities are located.

We advise the Chinese students to
pay close attention to
the latest anti-pandemic measures and policies
introduced by local schools
At the same time
they should pay attention to
the authoritative information
released by Chinese embassies and consulates
so as to help them decide
whether to return to China and when
As far as we know
there is a high risk
of infection on their way home.
