East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up its efforts to guard against imported cases of novel coronavirus infection by tightening up screening and monitoring of inbound travelers at ports, airports and train stations.
The provincial authorities have strengthened the screening and monitoring of inbound travelers at itss intricate network of ports and airports.
Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the only airport in the province that operates regular flights with South Korea and Japan.
Strict measures have been taken on entry-exit epidemic control including requiring the inbound travelers to submit a declaration of health to screen people with epidemic symptoms.
Anyone entering or exiting ports and airports should have their temperatures checked and strict inspections will be carried out on people with symptoms, those from regions severely hit by the virus and those who have had contact with confirmed patients.
In order to strengthen the prevention and control of virus infection from inbound travelers, Nanjing has established an epidemic prevention and control team and has shared information with foreign embassies and consulates, foreign-invested enterprises in Nanjing, foreign business associations, and foreign students.
In the meantime, authorities in Jiangsu have also strengthened cooperation with airports in Beijing and Shanghai by installing checkpoints at the airports in the two cities in a bid to cope with the transfer of returnees from hard-hit countries.
To deal with the increasing number of imported cases, Beijing has decided to impose a quarantine of 14 days on all visitors, both Chinese and foreigner, from severely stricken regions and countries, namely South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan.
Those who arrive in Beijing and Shanghai from overseas have to quarantine themselves either in their homes or in designated hotels and submit to nucleic acid tests for the virus before they are transferred to their final destination.
All people arriving in the province from overseas will be required to isolate themselves at home or designated places for 14 days.
The confirmed and suspected cases, the close contacts and people with symptoms of cough will be sent to designated hospitals for treatment.

In the meantime, Jiangsu has placed the inbound travelers under the grid social governance system at the grass-roots level so as to ensure they are registered and well looked after during medical observation.
