Over the past 9 days, 316 medical workers from Jiangsu have been working round the clock at the frontline in Huangshi, a city in Hubei province that Jiangsu is assigned to provide help under the national pairing-up support program.
The doctors and nurses from Jiangsu have paid special attention to the treatment of the infected patients in critical conditions through a variety of ways such as increasing 20 ICU beds and 60 beds for critically ill patients.
Lu Xiang, Deputy commander-in-chief of the Jiangsu medical team in Hubei
For the past week, we have spent our efforts on transforming the layout of the ward so that they conform to the infection management process ensuring that our treatment is controllable, so as to basically eliminating nosocomial infection and standardize infection management.
In the past 9 days, 316 medical workers from Jiangsu have worked hard to rescue about 100 critical cases, 200 critically infected cases, made more than 1,000 rounds on patients of no severe symptoms and tested more than 2,000 specimens.
These efforts have paid off as more patients are getting better. The situation, however, is still grave as the number of infected cases is very large.
As of 24 February 19, 642 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection were hospitalized in Huangshi, including 71 in severe conditions and 16 in critical conditions.
For the medical team from Jiangsu, improving the effectiveness of treatment and reducing mortality are still top priorities in the next stage of the aid.
Lu Xiang, Deputy commander-in-chief of the Jiangsu medical team in Hubei
We are facing a very critical period of treatment for critically ill patients. The number of deaths is increasing so we must take a multi-pronged approach to prevent these patients from getting worse. We very much hope that some recovered patients in Jiangsu can donate their plasma for us to treat critically ill patients in Huangshi.
