East China’s Jiangsu province has spared no efforts to transfer surplus rural laborers to non-agricultural sectors for employment so as to help them increase income.

Xia Shouhua, a farmer in Jianhu County, has been kept idle for half a month due to the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic.

He rushed to register for production resumption as soon as he was informed that the factory he worked with before the lunar new year will start production soon.

Authorities in Jianhu County have approved 23 agricultural enterprises resume work so as to stabilize production and supply of the farm produce. In the meantime, they have tried their best to arrange for rural laborers get employed.

Taking into account the restricted mobility during the epidemic prevention and control, Ganyu Distric of Lianyungang has innovated online recruitment by developing a cloud employment platform instead of the traditional face-to-face recruitment. In this way, they recruit urgently needed labor for the resumption of business and allow rural surplus labor to find employment.

Since the end of the Spring Festival holiday, 1,300 rural laborers in Ganyu District have reached employment intentions online. Ganyu District has also arranged buses to pick up the farmers at their homes and deliver them to the enterprises in surrounding areas.

No confirmed novel coronavirus cases have been reported in 28 of the 76 rural counties or districts in Jiangsu.

41 rural counties or districts have reported no confirmed cases for 10 consecutive days.

With the ease of epidemic control and prevention, Jiangsu is able to supply 8 million prospective rural laborers to help alleviate the shortage and reduce the cost of hiring workers when enterprises begin to resume production on a large scale.
