I am Sami Al-Hajri from Yemen. I am a student in Zhengjiang in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province, in my fourth year studying business administration. Today, I would like to share with you something that I consider relevant according to my view, even if it is small.
The novel coronavirus has recently spread from Wuhan to many Chinese cities, including my city.
The Chinese authorities have taken all means to try to eradicate the virus. These procedures include health protection measures for foreign students on campus. Our university, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, started using these measures to keep foreign students from being infected by the disease. So far, there have been no infections among foreigners and the procedure is considered successful. We are assured that the procedures are strict and accurate, and I am sure that the virus will be eliminated.
Ten days have passed and students have been staying inside the university dormitory since the health protection measures were implemented. To ensure that living necessities are provided, the university chose a team of volunteers, of which I am a member, to buy food for all students on campus. Every two days, the volunteers go out to the market to purchase all the necessary supplies according to each student’s requests.
I went out three times to buy things to help the university and students to get by during this period, which we hope will end soon. I won’t say that it hasn’t been difficult. We may shop from 3 p.m. until 8:30 or 9 in the evening, but when I return to the campus I feel very happy to have done this humanitarian volunteer work. I will continue to do this work and I will not leave China. I wish I could offer more help.
The Chinese are among the most practical people I have ever known and also very kind. China is one of the best countries to live in, in terms of security and convenience. Despite the country’s enormous population, I have seen how the Chinese people are united as one.
Finally, I wish a speedy recovery to all those infected. Eternity and mercy for the dead.
