Wuxi became home to the first idiom exhibition pavilion in East China on Jan 18.

Located in Xizhang Park in Huishan district, the pavilion displays hundreds of popular Chinese idioms related to Wuxi, with many sculptures, paintings, jade and porcelain works on show.

Wuxi is known as the birthplace of Wu culture. The pavilion is expected to help citizens and students gain a better understanding of traditional Chinese culture and the city's history.

Among the exhibition idioms, most of the visitors are familiar with Ju An Qi Mei, Cheng Men Li Xue and Wo Xin Chang Dan.

Ju An Qi Mei comes from an ancient tale that says a wife lifts a tray to be level with her eyebrows to show great respect for her husband. The husband's name, Liang Hong, is popular today as the name of a place in Wuxi's Xinwu district.

The pavilion has set up two sculptures to perform Cheng Men Li Xue, which came from the story of a student standing in the snow for a long time to wait respectfully on Master Cheng. The idiom asks people to learn from others with humble reverence during study and work.

Wo Xin Chang Dan derived from King Goujian of Yue's perseverance in overcoming the odds to revive his fallen state of Yue and conquer the rival state of Wu.

The pavilion is open to the public for free.
