East China’s Jiangsu province held a basic education work conference Monday in Nanjing. A speech by Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, was studied at the conference. Fei Gaoyun, vice governor of Jiangsu, addressed the conference.
Wu Zhenglong called for in-depth implementation of the spirit of the National Education Conference and the deployment of the National Basic Education Work Conference from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core so as to focus on morality education in the cultivation of newcomers of the era for national revival.
He called for continued efforts to increase financial expenditure, promote preschool education, high-quality compulsory education, and non-compulsory high school education, increase teachers' salaries, and provide a satisfactory education for the people.
Fei Gaoyun demanded that the level of rural education development be comprehensively improved and students' heavy homework load must be reduced.
