East China’s Jiangsu province has promoted the development of real economy in recent years to come up with independent and controllable industrial system by overcoming a number of core technology bottlenecks so that it continued to expand its industrial scale and increase its operating efficiency to transform from made-in-Jiangsu to intelligent manufacturing in Jiangsu.
The Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd of Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group has made continuous technological innovation and transformation since it put into operation two years ago the world's first automatic welding production line for crane turntables.
The robot is responsible for 18 processes on the production line. In the past, it took an average of 36 people to complete the work. Now only one person is needed to handle the work.
Five years ago, XCMG, which was reeling out of the industrial downturn, created a brand new industrial chain from R&D design to manufacturing and service so as to usher in the wave of "Internet + Industry" and become a national benchmark for intelligent manufacturing.
The all-terrain crane in which General Secretary Xi Jinping took a ride during his inspection tour two years ago has now been upgraded to 1,600 tons, becoming the world's first deadweight, marking XCMG’s commanding heights in the crane technology industry.
Through continuous innovation, XCMG has upgraded its entire product chain of construction machinery such as rollers, loaders, large complete sets of mining machinery, and excavators to high technological content, high added value, high reliability and large tonnage. Its unmanned construction machinery has exceeded construction limits. The birth of nearly one thousand construction machinery core technologies has enabled XCMG to rank sixth in the world's construction machinery. In some technical fields, XCMG has also transformed from a follower to a standard maker.
Sun Jianzhong, deputy CEO of XCMG and CEO of Hoisting Machinery:"Since the inspection by General Secretary Xi, our company has entered the best period of development history in terms of operation and development. We have emancipated our minds and invested almost 700 million yuan in major technological transformation projects and intelligent manufacturing, which has greatly enhanced our process manufacturing support capabilities and overall manufacturing capabilities."
XCMG’s change is a case in point in the transformation and upgrading of Jiangsu’s enterprises in recent years. As the country’s leader in the manufacturing industry, Jiangsu is keen to seize the historical opportunities of intelligent manufacturing, accelerate the cultivation of 13 advanced manufacturing clusters that are competitive and influential at home and abroad, including new energy equipment and high-end construction machinery, and compile an industrial chain road map, pushing Jiangsu's industrial structure to climb to the high end.
Since 2015, Jiangsu has increased 64 national technological centers and 302 at the provincial level. It has also launched 48 high end equipment making projects.
The 690 alloy U-tube being produced by Yixing Baoyin Special Steel Tube Co., Ltd. will be used in the heart of the "nuclear island" of the world’s first fourth-generation nuclear power plant, Shandong Shidaowan Nuclear Power Plant, which will be put into operation next year.
Zhu Haitao, CEO of Yixing Baoyin Special Steel Tube Co., Ltd:"Our foreign rivals used to say that it will take at least 15 years for China's 690 U-tubes to be engineered And it took us less than 10 years to achieve the target. The localization rate of China's nuclear power has been increased from the original 10%-30% range to the present level of over 90%"
The independent controllable key technologies have given a strong impetus to the province’s manufacturing industry. The 13 advanced manufacturing clusters that Jiangsu is focusing on have developed beyond the average growth rate of the industry. In particular, while the software and information industries have grown at a high speed, they have blended with other manufacturing industries to promote the optimization and upgrading of the province's industrial structure.
Since 2015, Jiangsu's industrial added value has grown at an average annual rate of 7.1% and is expected to exceed 4 trillion yuan in 2019. In terms of scale, Jiangsu's manufacturing industry accounts for 11.8% of the country's total. Eight major industries, including machinery, textiles, electronics, and medicine, are leading the country’s momentum with the primary operating revenue of the six industries exceeding RMB 1 trillion.
20,000 companies are boasting an annual operating income of more than 100 million yuan. 10 enterprises register annual operating revenue of over 100 billion yuan. The province also registers 723 special and new enterprises, and 58 champion companies at the national level. The profit of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.2% annually, accounting for 12.8% of the country's total, and ranking first in the country for five consecutive years.
Chi Yu, deputy director of the provincial department of industry and IT:"We have focused on 13 advanced manufacturing clusters to improve the core competitiveness of the industrial clusters. The 13 industrial clusters have all maintained a relatively good development momentum especially the software industry and big data industry with new-generation information technology as its core.At the same time, the role of these information technologies in driving and upgrading traditional manufacturing industries has been further strengthened The development of these 13 advanced manufacturing clusters has also laid a good foundation for the high-quality development of Jiangsu's industry."
