A series of memorial services were held ahead of National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims that will take place on December 13th.

Peace blessing walls have been erected in four metro stations to herald the beginning of the once-in-a-year National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims.

The signing on the wall will last till December 13th when the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims takes place.

Almost 100,000 people including survivors of the Nanjing Massacre, anti-Japanese war veterans, primary and secondary school students, international friends, foreign tourists, and citizens from all walks of life in Nanjing have participated in the signing since it was launched four years ago.

In the meantime, the last family memorial service was held in the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum.

In front of the whailing wall of the Nanjing Massacre vicitims, people mourned the deceased ancestors by standing in silence and presenting flowers.

During the Japanese occupation of China, an estimated 30 million Chinese were killed. In the Nanking Massacre, at least 369,366 people were slaughtered and 80,000 women were raped by Japanese invasion troops.

To mourn victims of the massacre, and bring to the forefront war crimes of the Japanese army, China set December 13th as a national memorial day. More than remembering Nanjing, the date is also a reminder of the calamities of war, and Chinese people’s tenacity for peace and safeguarding human dignity.
