The CPPCC Jiangsu Provincial Committee organized an inspection tour to Zhenjiang and Yangzhou on the promotion of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt. Huang Lixin, chairwoman of the provincial committee of the CPPCC, led the inspection tour and delivered a speech.
When addressing a seminar held during the inspection tour, Huang Lixin remarked that the promotion of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt should be carried out in accordance with the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and the requirements of the CPC Provincial Committee and the Provincial Government.
It is important to incorporate elements of the times in the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt so as to provide a strong impetus for the inheritance and development of China's outstanding traditional culture, she said.
The chairwoman stressed the necessity and importance of establishing a global perspective so as to promote the Grand Canal to become a nationally recognized cultural symbol and highlight the characteristics of Jiangsu so as to promote the Grand Canal from "geographic space" to "cultural space", and help with Jiangsu’s high quality development.
She also asked relevant government departments to highlight scientific planning, coordinate overall planning and implementation, and assume the mission and responsibility of the key construction areas for the Grand Canal National Cultural Park.
Huang Lixin demanded that greater efforts should be made to strengthen cultural leadership, create brand projects with distinctive regional characteristics and rich cultural connotations, adhere to the protection of the ecology, and promote the formation of a new model for the protection and inheritance of the Grand Canal culture.
She urged governments in the Grand Canal cities to create a joint force on cultural heritage protection, ecological environmental protection, industrial belt construction, and regional coordinated development so as to build the Jiangsu section of the Grand Canal into a high-grade cultural corridor, a high-value ecological corridor, and a high-level tourist corridor.
