China’s fresh milk output rose 5.2 percent year on year during the January-September period as the country's dairy production restored growth, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said at a press release on Wednesday.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the national raw milk production increased by 5.2% from January to September, while the dairy production increased by 8.8% year on year.
The sector reported faster transformation and upgrades, with the average output of dairy cows nationwide reaching 7.8 tonnes, an increase of 400 kilograms over the same period of last year.The quality of raw milk in large-scale pastures reached the level of developed countries.
The efficiency of dairy farming has rebounded. The income of dairy cows has returned to around 3,000 yuan per cow, and the profit of dairy cows with 9 tons per ton has reached 4,000 yuan.
Dairy consumer confidence boosted. In 2018, China's liquid milk sales increased by 7.1% year-on-year. The sales of domestic-made baby powder formula also increased from 14.5% to 21%, and the market share increased further.
Since the start of this year, the central government has allocated a number of funds to continue to expand the scope of grain-to-feed conversion. The areas of alfalfa cultivation bases will be increased from 500,000 mu to 1 million mu. 1,500 dairy cows and family farms will be upgraded. More training sessions will be launched for 5,000 ranchers and technicians. Third-party testing of raw milk quality will be carried out.
