Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has adhered to targeted poverty alleviation to promote the employment of low-income households with labor capacity, and the low-income population with an annual income of 6,000 yuan or less is expected to shake off poverty by the end of this year.
19.94 million people in Jiangsu cast off poverty this year, representing 77.8% of the total needy people in the province, the provincial office for poverty alleviation said.
The incidence of poverty rate dropped from 5.8% in 2016 to 1.1% this year, according to the office.
576,000 people in Jiangsu are yet to shake off poverty, the provincial office for poverty alleviation said. Nearly 60000 people need to live on basic minimum allowance.
Jiangsu will continue to deepen industrial poverty alleviation, entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation, asset income and poverty alleviation by developing high-quality and efficient industrial poverty alleviation projects, broadening entrepreneurial employment channels, helping low-income farmers to stabilize employment and continue to increase income, and establishing a long-term mechanism to alleviate relative poverty so as to ensure that the annual target is completed on schedule.
