Shishan Hengtang subdistrict in Suzhou New District, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, recently won the 2018 Suzhou Central Urban Area Scientific Development Innovation Award, according to local media reports.
Launched in 2010, the award aims to encourage and promote innovation and competitiveness among government departments in the central urban area of Suzhou.
Shishan Hengtan subdistrict took the lead in a number of important fields in 2018.
In the past year, it has been making efforts to develop regional economy and promote industrial transformation and upgrading.
The subdistrict's gross regional domestic product totaled 40 billion yuan ($5.61 billion), and its fixed-asset investment amounted to 11.53 billion yuan in 2018.
Technological transformation accounted for 90 percent of its industrial investment. Forty-four high-profile professionals were introduced to the subdistrict and its 15 companies were all approved as high tech ones over the same period.
This year, Shishan Hengtan launched a series of key projects, including the Shishan Business Innovation Zone, Listed Companies Headquarters Park, several bulky waste treatment plants and the renovation of old residential communities.
It also plans to introduce more than 50 high-profile talents and another 28 high tech companies in 2019.
In addition, Shishan Hengtang has greatly improved its government affairs services.
Last year the Public Service Building was put into operation, with just one window handling more than 130 items for local residents and companies.
