People in Jiangsu province have witnessed drastic livelihood improvement in the past 70 years, according a press conference held Thursday in Nanjing.
In 1951, urban residents in Jiangsu reported a per capita disposable income of 99.6 yuan but the figure surged to 47,200 yuan in 2018. The per capita disposable income of farmers was only 88 yuan in 1954 and 20845 yuan in 2018.
At the end of last year, Jiangsu employed 47.5 million people, a striking contrast to 456,200 people in 1952.
In 2018, the per capita housing construction area for Jiangsu’s urban residents was 46.9 square meters, an increase of 41.2 square meters compared with 1978.
The per capita housing area for farmers was 56.4 square meters in 2018, a gain of 46.7 square meters from 1978.
Officials from Changzhou, Zhenjiang and Taizhou shared their experiences in income growth and basic livelihood improvement.
The heads of departments such as the Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial Civil Affairs Department, the Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department, and the Provincial Health Commission answered questions from the media.
