The 1100 kV UHV-DC transmission project and the 1000 kV AC-UHV GIL integrated pipe gallery project were completed and put into operation in Jiangsu on Thursday.

On behalf of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, Fan Jinlong, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary General of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, expressed warm congratulations on the successful operation of the two major projects.

He said that the planning and construction of the two landmark projects embodies the outstanding wisdom and extraordinary creation of the relevant parties, adding that the completion and commissioning of the project is the best gift for the 70th birthday of New China.

The construction of Sutong comprehensive pipe gallery project has expanded the large channel of the west-to-east power transmission and formed the large ring network of East China's UHV transmission. It is of great significance for Jiangsu to accelerate the implementation of the three national strategies and promote high-quality development.

The Sutong GIL Integrated Pipe Gallery project tunnel crosses the Yangtze River. With a total length of 5468.5 meters and an excavation diameter of 12.07 meters, it starts at the Suzhou docking station on the South Bank and ends at the Nantong Linking Station in the north.

It is a GIL innovation project with the highest voltage level, the largest transmission capacity, the highest technical level and the longest distance in the world. It is also the largest underwater tunnel with the largest depth and the highest water pressure in China.

When put into operation, it will have a power-receiving capacity of 69.8 million kilowatts while reducing the annual use of coal for power generation by 170 million tons.
