The provincial leading group for the integrated Yangtze River Delta development held a meeting Thursday in Nanjing. The meeting was presided over by Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and head of the leading group. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu and sub-director of the leading group, attended the meeting.

It is a political task and also an opportunity for development for Jiangsu to resolutely follow the national strategy of serving and deepening the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, according to a statement released after the meeting.

It is important for the province to respond to the requirements made by the central government at the plenary meeting of the leading group for the integrated Yangtze River Delta development, start from specific issues, refine the supporting programs, study supporting policies, and solidly and orderly advance the various objectives and tasks defined in the Outline of the Plan for the Development of the Regional Integration of the Yangtze River Delta, the statement said.

We must focus on the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta in the administering of the work in the province, accelerate the integration of transportation, industrial integration, innovation and coordination, and public service sharing so as to seek substantial promotion of the development of cross-river integration, the statement said.

The leading group should give full play to its role of being the commander, planner and researcher so as to coordinate and solve problems, strengthen overall planning, form synergy, better coordinate all aspects of resources and strength, and arrange the tasks of the near-term, medium-term and long-term goals, the statement said.

The list of key work tasks, major platform projects and important reform initiatives, working rules and proposals for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta was reviewed and passed at the meeting.

Authorities from Shanghai and its three neighboring provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui agreed last June on a three-year action plan for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and nearly a dozen collaborative projects to increase the region's competitiveness on a global scale.

The agreements, signed at the 14th symposium of the main leadership of the Yangtze River Delta, indicated that by 2020, the region aims to become a national demonstration zone for new development concepts, a world-class urban center and an Asia-Pacific gateway for global resource allocation.

The integrated development of the delta region was elevated to a national strategy, announced by President Xi Jinping in Shanghai last November.

The announcement signified that development of the region - which is at the significant convergence of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt and contributes more than 20 percent to the country's GDP - will be fast-tracked.
