Excessive ozone affects the air quality and is detrimental to the health of the human respiratory tract. In response to the outstanding situation of ozone pollution in Jiangsu, the Provincial Department of Eco-Environment launched a campaign in August to rein in ozone pollution with phased results achieved so far.
Monitoring data show that in the first half of August this year, the province's PM2.5 concentration was 16.0 microgram per cubic meter, down 31.0% year on year.
91.8% of the days reported fine air quality, up 12.8% year on year.
The air quality has improved significantly, thanks to the ongoing summer ozone pollution prevention and control action in Jiangsu.
The campaign to rein in ozone pollution focused on strengthening the control and management of VOCs in key industries, key areas and key periods such as petrochemical, chemical, and industrial coatings.
1087 cases in violation of environmental protection have been dealt with since early August. 240 cases have been placed under criminal investigation.
In the next stage, Jiangsu will also be affected by unfavorable meteorological conditions such as high temperature, low clouds and static wind, which is a grim prospect for ozone prevention and control.
