Starting in July, Jiangsu has raised the basic living allowance for low income people with the first sum of allowance distributed to 884,000 low income people across the province.

Jiangsu registers 884,000 low income people in 503,000 households. 142,000 low income people are from 88000 urban families and 415,000 needy people are from 742,000 rural families.
Starting in July, the minimum monthly allowance for the urban and rural low income people has been raised to 721 yuan and 720 yuan per person. The increase stands for a year-on-year growth of 5.3% and 7.5%.
The hike has lifted the minimum monthly allowance to a level higher than the poverty alleviation standards.
The minimum monthly allowance across the province has been increased to more than 500 yuan per person, measuring up to the annual poverty alleviation target of 60000 yuan.
The city of Suqian, which ranks on the bottom, raised its minimum monthly allowance to 520 yuan per person in January.
