East China’s Jiangsu province unveiled its plans for agricultural and rural development in the second half of the year, according to a meeting held Tuesday by the Leading Group of the Provincial Party Committee for Rural Development.
A province-wide campaign will be launched to promote the in-depth study of Book of General Secretary Xi Jinping's discourses on agriculture, rural development, according to a statement released after the meeting. A compilation of Xi Jinping's discourses on the development of agriculture, rural areas and rural people has been published by the Central Party Literature Press.
The book includes 286 excerpts from more than 70 documents on the subject between December 2012 and March 2019, including speeches, reports, instructions and congratulatory letters, delivered by President Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
It consists of 11 topics, including the rural vitalization strategy, agricultural and rural modernization, land reform, food security, green development, rural governance and poverty alleviation.
In the first half of the year, Jiangsu has made steady progress in the rural revitalization promotion strategy but there still exist unbalanced and inadequate policy implementation, according to a statement released after the meeting.
It is important to solve the problems that concern the people’s livelihood by doing a good job in agricultural and rural development, the statement said.
Efforts should be made to strengthen the supervision on summer crops, farm produce quality, and control over African swine fever and ensure that major agricultural product quality and safety accidents and animal and plant epidemics do not occur, the statement said.
Governments at all levels in the province should attach importance to the prevention and control of flood prevention and drought relief to ensure that the province spends the rainy season safe and sound, according to the statement.
Yang Yue, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Department, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Vice Governor Fei Gaoyun attended the meeting.
