South Suzhou's Wujiang district in Jiangsu province, Northeast Jiaxing's Jiashan county in Zhejiang province and West Shanghai's Qingpu district will be jointly built into a demonstration zone for ecological green development in the Yangtze River Delta region, according to a press conference held Tuesday by the State Council Information Office.

The demonstration zone is a key project concerning the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, Ying said.

Meanwhile, the expanded area of the China Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is awaiting the central government's final approval and the Hongqiao business area in western Shanghai will also play crucial roles in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, he said.

The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region was elevated to a national strategy in November 2018. The development plan of the area has been recently approved and published.

Authorities from Shanghai and its three neighboring provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui agreed last June on a three-year action plan for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and nearly a dozen collaborative projects to increase the region's competitiveness on a global scale.

The agreements, signed at the 14th symposium of the main leadership of the Yangtze River Delta, indicated that by 2020, the region aims to become a national demonstration zone for new development concepts, a world-class urban center and an Asia-Pacific gateway for global resource allocation.
