Cai Meiying, an embroiderer from Zhenhu, a renowned embroidery town in Suzhou New District of Jiangsu province, displayed 33 works at an embroidery exhibition recently held in Minzu University of China in Beijing.
Cai uses her embroidery to vividly depict figures from photographs, oil paintings, Chinese elaborate-style paintings, and ink paintings.

Among her works, the 15.9-meter long Prosperous Gusu is the most eye-catching, featuring more than 12,000 figures, 400 ships, 200 buildings, and 50 bridges.
Cai said that it took her and another 19 embroiderers five years to finish the masterpiece using 50,000 kilometers of silk thread in more than 2,000 different colors.

In addition, Cai also taught 30 green hands from local universities, businesses and social institutions how to embroider during the five-day event.
Zhenhu town is home to more than 8,000 female embroidery artists, two of whom have been honored as national inheritors of Su embroidery.
