The Shiyezhou Island, located in the western suburb of Zhenjiang City, is surrounded by the Yangtze River and has a shoreline of 27.67 kilometers. The scenery here is more beautiful than painting, as is praised by General Secretary Xi Jinping in 2014 when he went on an inspection tour to the island. In recent years, Shiyezhou has promoted the improvement of the ecological environment of the whole island and embarked on a distinctive road of green development.

Great changes have taken place in recent years. In the past, Shiyezhou was surrounded by fishing wharfs, enterprises, small fishing boats and sand mining vessels, causing damage to the Yangtze River ecology.
Since 2015, the local government has vigorously shut down and rectified the enterprises along the Yangtze River and carried out ecological restoration of the river beach by closing four shipbuilding and repairing enterprises, three sandstone piers and one shipyard. At the same time, the water environment is being rectified across the island.
Shiyezhou has also started domestic sewage treatment project as the direct discharge of the sewage affects the water quality of the Yangtze River. The island has therefore taken the lead in Zhenjiang in realizing the full coverage of the sewage pipe network and completed the ecological transformation of the dry toilets for all the villagers.

The rural water environment in today's Shiyezhou has become more beautiful as the people have felt more sense of happiness. Idyllic, life is becoming a true portrayal of this small island in the Yangtze River.
