Authorities in Jiangsu province are urged to bring law into better play in protecting the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, according to a provincial government executive meeting held Saturday in Nanjing. The meeting, presided over by Governor Wu Zhenglong, was held in response to China's top legislator Li Zhanshu’s recent inspection tour to Jiangsu on the protection of the Yangtze River.
The inspection tour to Jiangsu by Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, is a true reflection of the importance attached to Jiangsu’s ecological civilization by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Chairman Li’s inspection tour to Jiangsu is also an encouragement for the province to enhance the prevention and control of water pollution, the statement said.
The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta is a major strategy that General Secretary Xi Jinping has personally planned, personally deployed, and personally promoted, the statement said.

China's top legislator Li Zhanshu called for accelerating legislation to protect the Yangtze River at a symposium held in east China's Jiangsu Province last Thursday.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the Yangtze River protection law should provide legal support for the green and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
