Jiangsu to boost trade ties with ROK

  Lou Qinjian, secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, visited the Republic of Korea from Sunday to Wednesday. He met with South Korean politicians and business tycoons, carried out a series of exchange activities in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, and reached consensus on a number of cooperation projects.

  When meeting with Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Lou said that the leaders of the two countries have met many times in recent years to push the relationship between the two countries to a more mature and stable era.

  He noted that Jiangsu will implement the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and share with Seoul a series of major opportunities brought about by Chinas national strategies such as the construction of the "Belt and Road", the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, promote comprehensive cooperation and make active efforts for the in-depth development of China-ROK relations.

  Park Won-soon said that Seoul is looking forward to strengthening mutual cooperation with Jiangsu in the areas of smart city construction, economy, trade and culture, promote the relationship between the two regions to a new height, and enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries.

  Before the Jiangsu Korea Open Innovation Cooperation Exchange Conference held on the afternoon of May 27th, Lou Qinjian met with Paik Ungyu, South Korea’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy and Han Ki-won, Chief of the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. The leaders exchanged views and reached consensus on further strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Jiangsu and South Korea.

  Paik Ungyu said that Jiangsus development opportunities have brought favorable and broad space for cooperation between the two sides. The Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency will support more Korean companies to develop in Jiangsu. Han Ki-won said that he hoped that the two sides will continue to expand cooperation in many fields from manufacturing to service industries, and exert greater influence in Central Asia and South Asia so as to open up new paths for cooperation in industrial park development and infrastructure construction.

  Lou Qinjian and Han Ki-won also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening economic and trade cooperation and agreed to continue to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation in emerging industries, trade and investment, and construction of China-Korea industrial parks.

  On May 28th to 29th, the CPC Provincial chief visited Jeollabuk-do and Gyeonggi-do. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the sister relationship between Jiangsu and Jeollabuk-do.

  When meeting with the Governor and Speaker of Jeollabukdo, Lou said that since the twinning relationship between the two provinces, the exchanges between the two sides have become increasingly close and the cooperation has been fruitful. It is hoped that the traditional friendship will be further deepened at a new starting point, and opportunities will be seized to expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, China and South Korea Yancheng Industrial Park, culture and tourism to better benefit the people of the two provinces.

  The Governor and Speaker of Jeollabukdo thanked the Jiangsu delegation for its visit on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the sister relationship, adding that Jeollabuk-do is willing to walk side by side with Jiangsu and carry out substantive cooperation in the fields of Saemangeum Industrial Park, education and culture to promote the relationship between the two sides to a new higher level.

  During the talks with the governor of Gyeonggi-do, Lou Qinjian said that the economic development of Jiangsu and Gyeonggi Province is complementary and has broad space for cooperation. He also made suggestions on strengthening cooperation between the two sides. The governor of Gyeonggi-do said that Gyeonggi Province will take the opportunity to further strengthen the friendly exchanges and cooperation, deepen the cooperation with Jiangsu in various fields, and promote the continuous development of the relationship between the two provinces. Gyeonggi Province is located in Seoul's metropolitan area and is home to 35% of the manufacturing companies in Korea.

  Samsung Electronics, LG Group, SK Group and Hyundai Motor Group, the top four world-class companies in Korea, are the earliest South Korean investors in Jiangsu and have maintained good momentum.

  Lou Qinjian met with SK Group President, Kia Motors President, Samsung Electronics CEO and Vice President and LG Group President to brief them on the development of Jiangsu, including a series of important development opportunities, and Jiangsu's initiatives to build a world-class business environment.

  He hoped that the four conglomerates will further expand their investment and development in Jiangsu on the existing basis to achieve win-win development. The Korean tycoons expressed their gratitude to Jiangsu for its strong support to the development of Korean enterprises in Jiangsu. They highly valued the business environment in Jiangsu and are very optimistic about the development prospects of Jiangsu. They are also willing to further deepen cooperation with Jiangsu to achieve mutual benefit and win-win in a wider scope.

  During the visit to South Korea, Lou Qinjian was invited to visit the Seoul Civic Center, Jeonju Hanok Village and LG Technology Park Exhibition Hall. Qiu Guohong, Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, participated in some activities.
