East China’s Jiangsu province has given full play to educational modernization in a variety of ways so as to adapt education to the requirements of promoting high-quality development and meeting the expectations of the people.
As one of the "oldest" rural schools in Xuzhou County, Yangtun Town Central Primary School has undergone tremendous changes from a series of educational reforms. Evolving from a dimly-lit classroom, one piece of chalk and a blackboard to the Internet-based and intelligent teaching, the school has now admitted more than 4,450 students.
Yangtun Primary School is not alone. Last year, Jiangsu renovated 1060 rural schools and 2280 rural schools upgraded their teaching facilities.
In the meantime, Jiangsu has tightened regulation over after-school institutions to enable the students choose their favorite subjects after school at the government’s expense.
Jiangsu has also reformed its college entrance examination system to ensure that the test-takers will be examined in a more scientific way. The total scores will be raised from 480 to 750 while the students will be tested on 3 of the 12 optional subjects rather than 8 subjects, as is the case in the past years.
