Former President of Czech Republic visits Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum

Václav Klaus, former President of the Czech Republic, visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum Saturday afternoon.

Accompanied by Vladimír Tomšík, the Czech ambassador to China, Klaus arrived at the museum at three in the afternoon.

After touring museum for 40 minutes, the former president went to the memorial site where he laid flower baskets.

He also inscribed on the message book that we should never forget history.

Klaus served as Czech Prime Minister from 1992 to 1997 and was twice elected President in 2003 and 2008.

In May 2017, Czech President Milos Zeman visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museumto become the first incumbent foreign president, and second foreign head of state following Queen of Denmark Margrethe II in 2014, to visit the hall, which commemorates the more than 300,000 Chinese killed by the invadingJapanese troops over a period of six weeks after the city fell on Dec. 13, 1937.
