Nearly 10,000 kinds of books were exhibited at the 2019 National Children's Book Fair that opened Wednesday in Nanjing, making it the largest of its kind in history.
36 professional children's publishing houses brought nearly 10,000 kinds of books, attracting hundreds of online bookstores and physical bookstore buyers to make purchase.
Famous children's literature writers, critics, picture book illustrators, publishers were invited to meet the readers to discuss the theme of "Children's Publishing Structural Adjustment and High Quality Development" and "New Age Original Children's Literature Creation and Publishing".
At present, there are 580 publishing houses in China, of which more than 500 publish children's books. Children's books account for 23% of the entire book retail market. However, children's books also have problems such as imbalance, follow-up publication, and serious homogenization.
With the growth momentum of the Internet + and social media, publishers are actively exploring the integration and innovation of children's book publishing. For example, the content is processed into video, audio, e-book and other multimedia forms, which are favored by many children. Experts say that e-books can really make children have a sense of participation and interaction, but paper-based books have an advantage in the cultivation of comprehension and reading habits.
The book fair will last until Thursday.
