Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, and Luo Shugang, Minister of Culture and Tourism, inspected the Grand Canal Museum project Monday in Yangzhou.
The Grand Canal Museum will be located in Sanwan, a beautiful section of the Grand Canal in Yangzhou.
The architectural plan was led by Academician Zhang Jinqiu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief architect of the China Architecture Northwest Design Institute. The museum will be built with a number of themed exhibition halls and functional areas to make it a modern comprehensive museum integrating cultural heritage protection, scientific research exhibitions and leisure experience so as to display the Grand Canal comprehensively.
Wu Zhenglong and Luo Shugang inquired about the progress of the project and were briefed by Zhang Jinqiu on the design and layout of the museum.
Wu Zhenglong expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for its support and the hard work of the design team. He said that the Grand Canal is a valuable asset and a flowing culture left behind by our ancestors.
He stressed efforts to be made to highlight the characteristics of the Grand Canal, build a national first-class museum, create a masterpiece and a masterpiece of historical culture and modern civilization, and strive to make it the most iconic project that can reflect the Grand Canal culture.
Luo Shugang said Jiangsu has made remarkable progress in recent years in the protection, inheritance and utilization of the Grand Canal, making a good start on the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt.
He hoped that Jiangsu will take full advantage of the overall situation and long-term vision, take the lead in coordinating roles, protect the Grand Canal heritages, inherit the Grand Canal culture, make rational use of the resources of the Grand Canal, and promote the construction of the pilot section of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt with high quality for the rejuvenation of the Grand Canal.
