Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, hailed volunteer teaching program in remote areas undertaken by students of Nanjing Normal University in a reply to the student’s letter.

The 20th volunteer teaching group of the university’s graduate students wrote to the CPC Provincial chief recently to report on their work and expressed their determination to serve the people at the grassroots community.

Lou wrote back after he received the letter from the volunteers who are now teaching in west China’s Xinjiang, Gansu and Guizhou.

The letter from the volunteer teaching group of the university’s graduate students has inspired me a lot, Lou said in his reply to the students, adding that their devote to the education in the remote areas fully demonstrates the spiritual outlook of Jiangsu students' dreams and dedication, and the feelings and responsibilities of the young people in the new era.

Despite hardships and with wholehearted devotion, you have played a positive role in boosting education in the western regions, and you have gained experiences, strengthened mind and improved abilities through grassroots practice, Lou said, adding that he is very satisfied with the progress the students have made.

He hoped the university would continue the practice, so that more students would grow up to become the backbone of the country.

The CPC Provincial chief noted that by going to work in the remote areas in the underdeveloped regions of west China, the college students can fully understand the national conditions, and strengthen their confidence in socialist path, theory and system and culture.

Lou Qinjian stressed that it is important for the youth to follow the important speech made by General Secretary Xi Jinping at a gathering marking the centenary of the May Fourth Movement held Tuesday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi urged the country's youth to uphold Marxism beliefs, follow the Party's leadership and devote themselves to the nation and the people.

Young people should combine personal aspirations with national rejuvenation and devote themselves where there's a need, he said.

The CPC Provincial chief also called for the youth to strengthen their resolve to move forward along the path set by the May Fourth Movement to realize national rejuvenation by dedicating to the volunteer teaching service in west China.

China has been sending undergraduate or graduate students to west China for volunteer teaching services for one year.

Jiangsu has so far sent 1516 graduate students in 20 batches. Nanjing Normal University has sent 192 volunteers in 17 batches to Xinjiang, Gansu and Guizhou over the past years.
