Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, stressed the importance of adhering to Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era to boost cross-integration, innovation and transformation of kinetic energy, and provide strong support for the province’s high-quality development. He made the remarks when going on an inspection tour to Zhenjiang-based Jiangsu University on Sunday.
Jiangsu University, which has a history of 100 years of schooling, is a university built by the provincial government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Lou Qinjian visited the History Museum of Jiangsu University before being briefed on the university’s teaching, research, and enrollment in recent years.
He spoke highly of Jiangsu University’s efforts in nurturing morality and training talents and forming distinctive school-running characteristics and unique cultural sentiments.
He required the university to grasp the opportunities of promoting high-level university, follow the laws of education, maintain and consolidate their distinctive advantages, accelerate intensive development and constantly improve the level of running schools.
As the earliest university in China to establish agricultural machinery and the earliest systematic agricultural machinery education, Jiangsu University has made positive contributions to the cultivation of agricultural equipment talents and scientific and technological innovation in China.
When visiting the key laboratory of Modern Agricultural Equipment and Technology, the CPC Provincial chief inquired about the research, development and marketing of advanced equipment such as rice and rapeseed combine harvesters, automatic vegetable transplanters, and unmanned agricultural machinery.
He called on universities to establish long-term and stable cooperative relations with enterprises, strive to expand market applications and make greater contributions to agricultural modernization.
When visiting the National Pump and System Engineering Technology Research Center, Lou Qinjian learned about the properties and functions of the equipment, encouraging the research center to give full play to its professional and talent advantages, conduct interdisciplinary research and play an active role in areas such as water conservancy infrastructure construction.
The CPC Provincial secretary pledged that Jiangsu will vigorously support universities in the province to boost the development of laboratories at the national level, better promote the application of basic research and the research of cutting-edge technologies and key technologies so as to boost the transformation of advantageous technological achievements and the cultivation of strategic emerging industries.
Lou Qinjian hoped that Jiangsu University will strive to maintain its characteristics, create its own brand, highlight its advantages, give further play to its distinctive strength in the fields of agricultural machinery and teacher education, cultivate and create more high-quality professionals so as to continuously meet the needs of the people for quality-oriented higher education and make greater contribution to the construction of a new Jiangsu.
