The Yangtze River Delta Business Summit was held in Nanjing on Tuesday. Governor Wu Zhenglong met with the guests. Fan Youshan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Yang Yue, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, attended the meeting.
On behalf of the provincial party committee and the provincial government, Wu Zhenglong expressed his gratitude to the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and the distinguished guests for their long-term support to Jiangsu's development. He said that the three provinces and one municipality in the Yangtze River Delta, namely Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Shanghai, are geographically adjacent, culturally close, and economically compatible. They have an extremely important position and role in the overall development of the country.
Especially under the personal planning, deployment and promotion of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta has been upgraded to a national strategy, which is an important milestone and new starting point in advancing the process of regional integration in the new era, the Governor said.
He noted that the business summit is held to promote the development of higher quality integration in the Yangtze River Delta and implement the important instructions of the General Secretary through practical actions and the major decision-making arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council.
We will seize the major opportunities brought about by the overlapping effects of the national strategies in Jiangsu, shoulder the mission, persist in innovation-driven approaches, seek active integration and participation, give full play to their respective strengths, enhance Jiangsu's competitiveness and promote high-quality development in the process of implementing the national strategies, said the governor.
Wu Zhenglong remarked that enterprises are the primary driving force behind the development of the Yangtze River Delta, adding that Jiangsu will implement policies and measures such as tax and fee reduction, deepen the reform on the transformation of government functions, focus on creating a more fair, open and excellent business environment, spare no effort to solve the development problems and promote the transformation and upgrading of enterprises so as to boost the development of higher quality integration in the Yangtze River Delta.
Fan Youshan said that the Yangtze River Delta is one of the most open and economically active regions in China, and also one of the regions with the strongest comprehensive strength and innovative ability of the private economy. By promoting the development of higher quality and integrated quality in the Yangtze River Delta, the region has provided a broader stage for the development of private enterprises.
The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce will further enhance its political stance, plan work from the perspective of regional integration development, and promote private enterprises to play a greater role in the development of the Yangtze River Delta.
Themed on fusion and innovation, the summit was initiated by the Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce and co-sponsored by the three provinces and one municipality.
The Yangtze River Delta, which centers around Shanghai, is an important international gateway and one of the major engines of China’s economy.
In addition to the municipality of Shanghai, the Yangtze River Delta region is traditionally made up of the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and more recently also includes the province of Anhui. The whole region covers 211,770 km2 – more than twice the size of South Korea.
With 3.85 percent of the country's land, the Yangtze River Delta region produced nearly one-fourth of China's GDP and one-third of its tax revenue.
The region is set to continue to play a significant role in China’s economy with its transformation into a world-class city cluster.
