Organized by the Pukou District People’s Government and the Italy China Foundation, the 2019 China-Italy Innovation and Development Summit opened in Nanjing City on April 2, when agreements for a number of projects were signed. The summit was hosted with the support of Nanjing Science City, also known as Chip City, and the Italy China Foundation (Jiangsu) Innovation Service Center.

Cesare Romiti, president of the Italy China Foundation, said “as early as 20 years ago, we cooperated with China in automobile manufacturing, but this time our cooperation with Nanjing will focus more on the research and innovation of core auto components.”

Qi Yuwei, Party chief of Pukou District, said this summit will further broaden the district’s international cooperation, help introduce Italy's cutting-edge technology, industrial experience, and corporate achievements into Pukou, and also create a new momentum for regional growth.

In recent years, China is transforming from a manufacturing power to a big innovation country, and more and more Italian companies have consulted about how to have face-to-face communication with Chinese companies and industrial parks and promote cooperation in science and technology innovation, according to Lorenzo Riccardi, board member of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC). He also said Italy is cooperating with China in the fields of machinery manufacturing, new energy and aerospace.

Olderigo Fantacci from the Deloitte Asia Pacific said Italy enjoys advantages in aerospace, automotive industry, renewable energy and China is at the forefront of the world in information technology, artificial intelligence and other fields so the two countries can cooperate for mutual benefit and win-win results.
