China’s tourism authorities estimate about 150 million trips will be made during the upcoming Labor Day holiday that will be expanded to four days for the first time since 2007.

Online queries show Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Guangzhou, Kunming, Nanjing, and Sanya have become the most popular domestic tourist destinations for the Labor Day holiday. Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Turkey have become popular destinations in outbound travel.

Passenger cars with seven seats or less and motorcycles will get a free pass through toll roads, bridges and tunnels during the Labor Day holiday.

This year, the Labor Day holiday will be expanded to four days, general office of the State Council said in a news release on Friday morning.

The pre-planned one-day break falling on May 1 will be adjusted to a four-day holiday starting from May 1 to May 4, according to the release, while April 28 and May 5 will be work days.

Tourism-related departments are urged to get fully prepared for transportation support and tour products supply to secure travelers a safer holiday.

The Labor Day holiday, used to be a seven-day break, was shortened to three days in 2007.
