Round table conference of Jiangsu and foreign consulates in Shanghai held in Nanjing

  A round table meeting between Jiangsu Province and foreign Consul Generals in Shanghai was held Wednesday in Nanjing. Governor Wu Zhenglong attended the round table meeting and delivered a speech.

  Wu Zhenglong expressed his warm welcome to all the guests and friends and his gratitude to the foreign representative office in Shanghai for their support for Jiangsu.

  He said that in today's world, open cooperation and mutual benefit are the general trend of development. Last year, China celebrated the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up and issued a mobilization order for the new era of reform and opening up. This year's session of the National People's Congress reviewed and approved the "Foreign Investment Law of the People's Republic of China", proclaiming China's clear stance of pursuing a mutually beneficial and open-win strategy and actively promoting the construction of an open world economy.

  As the meeting point of the “Belt and Road” initiative, Jiangsu is a beautiful and fascinating land and also a place to create miracles and achieve dreams, the governor said. 

  Wu noted that in the past decades Jiangsu has ranked foremost in the country in its reform and opening up and its high quality development will continue to rally support from the opening up drive.

  The high quality development of Jiangsu will provide many new opportunities for countries around the world, the governor said, adding that with friends coming from all over the world, Jiangsu will further strengthen its exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries in the fields of economy, trade, scientific and technological innovation, talents and humanities, grasp new opportunities for opening up, share new development results, and write a new chapter of cooperation and development.

  Michele Cecchi, Consul-General of Italy in Shanghai said that he felt extremely honored to be invited to the conference.

  He said :“Italy and China are linked as the starting point and ending point of the old and the new silk road. Great opportunities are going to be discovered by the state visit.”

  “I am expected to learn more about the plans, the very ambitious development plan of Jiangsu to integrate into the Yangtze River Delta Region and to discuss together the opportunities for Italy to contribute to the success of this developing goal,” said Michele Cecchi.

  Eyal Propper, Consul-General of Israel in Shanghai said Jiangsu is a pioneer for other provinces to follow in terms of cooperation with foreign countries.

  “Jiangsu was the first province to establish research and development cooperation program between Jiangsu and Israel. We have a very strong relation with Jiangsu. The R&D Cooperation is one example; and the second example is Changzhou Industrial Park,” said Eyal Propper.

  Present at the round table conference held in Nanjing on Wednesday were Consul-Generals from Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Austria, Belarus, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Panama, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, France, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Slovenia.

  With Jiangsu being the forefront of attracting foreign investment in China, Consul-Generals from Japan and Slovenia to Shanghai showed their confidence in having more cooperation with Jiangsu. 

  Akio Isomata, Consul General of Japan in Shanghai said that the two sides have huge potential to cooperate in environmental protection and intelligent manufacturing.

  “I hope that Japanese companies will actively cooperate with the companies in China and in Jiangsu Province in these fields,” said Akio Isomata.

  Milos Prislan, Consul General of Slovenia in Shanghai said that he hoped to continue the cooperation in the field of aviation. 

  “We have a project in Jiangsu, and we are hoping to start building a factory of small electric airplanes in the summer this year,” said Milos Prislan.

  Olivier Zehnder, Consul-General of Switzerland in Shanghai said that he is very confident to Jiangsu’s environment to foreign business after his visit to some Swiss companies in Jiangsu.

  “A lot of Swiss companies and a lot of Swiss multi-nationals and SMEs have their production sites in the region, and the feedback I had received from them is that they are very positive about their experience in Jiangsu. We are looking forward to increasing Swiss investment in Jiangsu,” said him.

  2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Portugal. Israel Saraiva, Consul-General of Portugal to Shanghai said that he would make his contribution to closer relations between Portugal and Jiangsu.

  “Jiangsu is a very dynamic province, a very important province for our investors back in Portugal. It is also important for us to attract Chinese investment from your province to Portugal,” said him.
