Yang Xining, 50, enjoys a high income in Yangzhou City, which is now fully promoting the household garbage sorting, but he has never purchased any shopping bag in 17 years.
Yang said he formed the habit after watching a TV series about garbage sorting 17 years ago. He always sorts out the recycling materials and then sells them after a certain time.
He put materials like newspapers, toothpaste box and crushed milk bottles in one box in the cabinet underneath the kitchen sink, and next to it was a woven bag filled with plastic wastes as well as dozens of plastic egg trays, collected by Yang’s parents.
Yang used a foldable cloth bag, already with two mends, to purchase vegetables in his eco-friendly life, saying he hasn’t bought any shopping bag for 17 years. “This is not about money, but simply for the sake of environmental protection,” said Yang.
