After the Lantern Festival, the Spring Festival holidays finally ended. it's time to go back for work! We bought beautiful fresh flowers, decorated the jujube tree with little red lanterns and put on the recruitmrnt notice in front of the door...... The iSuzhou Coffee Shop is noisy again.
The Suzhou lantern experience activity was held in the iSuzhou Coffee Shop of Zhuangyuan Museum on February 23. Nearly 20 Chinese and foreigners gathered together to experience the charm of the intangible cultural heritage.
We invited Wang Xiaowen, a representative national inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, as a guest speaker. Wang entered the Suzhou Folk Craft Factory to study at the age of 17 and is 75 years old now, but he is still good at making Suzhou lantern. Through the 3-hour activity, all people were very dedicated, patient and hard-working. The first person finished the work was a French girl. She siad that she is doing job about antique furniture and does well in handwork.
Suzhou Lantern has a history of more than 1600 years. It originated in the Southern and Northern Dynasties and was particularly popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Suzhou Lantern usually looks like a pavilion, in a unique style Suzhou classical garden architecture with four main processes: tying a rack, paste the paper, paper cutting and painting. It has been incorporated into the first representative list of national intangible cultural heritage in 2008. To spread Suzhou lantern culture, Wang organizes many Suzhou lantern classes in Zhenhua Middle School and Pingjiang Middle School and some other experience activities. He is pleased that there are really a few excellent sutudents!
This activity was hosted by iSuzhou, a platform guided by publicity department of Suzhou Municipal Government and developed and operated by iSuzhou Studio of Suzhou Daily Group that devotes to promote cultural exchanges. We hope that through this event, more Chinese and foreigners will learn about Suzhou Lantern and feel the charm of Suzhou traditional culture. Let's look forward to the next wonderful cultural journey!
