The Dongfangzhimen Station of Suzhou Rail Transit Line 1 has become the first in Jiangsu Province to offer wireless network based on China Mobile (Suzhou)’s 5G service.
5G stands for the fifth generation of the next wireless mobile standard and theoretically can support data transmission speeds more than 100 times faster than 4G networks. The newly offered Wi-Fi signal enables downloading of a 1080P HD movie in just a few seconds with the peak download speeds hitting 698.1 Mbps.
Suzhou plans to expand the 5G test sites to 100 by the end of this year, mostly opened at Suzhou’s industrial parks, Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, Changshu and Zhangjiagang cities. Already available at some transportation hubs in Suzhou, 5G access will be offered in commercial centers, office buildings, government agencies, exhibition centers, stadiums, factories and residential communities.
The Suzhou branch of China Mobile plans to live broadcast the 10th Suzhou Jinji Lake International Half Marathon on March 10 with 5G. The public can put on virtual reality (VR) glasses provided at the Dongfangzhimen Station to enjoy a panoramic view of the event as well as vivid, ultra-high definition images.
