Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the provincial party committee and the provincial government have pinpointed the construction of a modern integrated transportation system as the province's overall key work and the "most urgent" task in a bid to boost the province’s high-quality development.

The Longtan Suspension Bridge is 1,560 meters long in its main span, making it the sixth suspension bridge in China and the eighth in the world. Upon its operation, the bridge will slash the travel time from Yangzhou to the east of Nanjing and the west of Zhenjiang. It will take less than one hour for people in Yangzhou to travel to Nanjing Lukou International Airport, which will further promote the integrated development of Nanjing, Zhenjiang and Yangzhou.

In 2019, Jiangsu will inject 137 billion yuan into transportation infrastructure construction by wrapping up 43 major investment projects, starting 46 large investment projects and building more than 5000 kilometers of road network.

Efforts are being made to accelerate the construction of the Nanjing-Huai’an railway, the northern Yangtze River railway, the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou railway, the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing railway and the phase II of the Shanghai-Nantong railway. 316 kilometers will be built on the Xuzhou-Suqian-Huai’an-Yancheng railway and 108 kilometers on the Lianyungang-Huai’an-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang railway.

Jiangsu will also accelerate the improvement of air transport capacity. Construction of Lianyungang New Airport will be completed while work on the reconstruction and expansion of T1 terminal building of Nanjing Lukou Airport will be continued. The expansion project of Nantong Xingdong Airport Terminal Area and Wuxi Shuofang Airport Reconstruction Project will be completed to fully promote the second runway of Wuxi Shuofang Airport and the pre-work of the new airport in Nantong.

Systematic planning will be made on the development and construction of Tongzhou Bay and the creation of new seaports in Suzhou and Nantong. Efforts will be made to strengthen the river-sea combined transport in the section of the Yangtze River to the lower reaches of Nanjing in addition to the establishment of Nanjing Regional Shipping Logistics Center, Suzhou Taicang Container Base Port.

Jiangsu will also accelerate the improvement of the road network by constructing a 15-radiant, six-vertical and ten-horizontal expressway network. 163 kilometers of expressway will be constructed between Hai’an and Qidong. 280 kilometers will be built in the six projects that include the expansion of the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway.
