East China’s Jiangsu province has wrapped up the first phase of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project for 2018-2019. The total amount of water transferred to Luoma Lake was 264 million square meters, which is equivalent to transferring the Yangtze River water of the size of 35 Xuanwu Lake to Luoma Lake. According to the plan, the second phase of the province's annual water transfer work will start around February 20 and last until mid-May 2019 with 844 million cubic meters of water to be transferred to Shandong, equivalent to transfer of water of one Luoma Lake. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China is the largest of its kind ever undertaken. The project involves drawing water from southern rivers and supplying it to the dry north through three diversion routes, stretching south-to-north across the eastern, central and western parts of the country.
