East China’s Jiangsu province is gearing up to ensure safe transportation during the upcoming spring festival travel rush.

Transportation department will install passenger and cargo diversion signs on the expressway linking the fourth Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing, enhance surveillance video for dynamic inspection, and install more electronic surveillance to detect traffic violations such as occupying emergency lanes and speeding.

Traffic police officers will be dispatched to the designated spots to be on duty and divert the traffic flow.

Police checkpoints have been installed on the 100 expressways across the province. All local high-speed traffic police will join hands with road law enforcement brigade, expressway authority and road rescue departments to carry out key safety inspections on buses and vehicles carrying dangerous goods in a bid to eliminate road safety hazards such as overloading, overcrowding, and mixed loading of passenger and cargo.

The number of self-driving travels during the Spring Festival this year will increase by 10%. In order to avoid possible high-speed congestion and increase of accidents, the Traffic Police Corps of the Provincial Public Security Bureau also announced ten accident-prone road sections, involving highways, national highways, provincial highways, etc., reminding the crew be on the alert.

Face-swiping systems will be installed across the high-speed railway system to enhance public security.

On Sunday, 4 fugitives were captured at Zhenjiang South Railway Station as they tried to pass the face-swiping system when going through the security check. They were accused of illegally detaining five victims last November in a pyramid selling scam and are wanted by police in Changzhou.

In response to the surging entry and exit requirements during the Spring Festival, the Nanjing Lukou International Airport put into operation its expanded and upgraded entry and exit self-service inspection and release channels on Wednesday. The exit and entry self-service clearance channels have been expanded from the original four to ten.

The upgraded self-service customs clearance system has improved performance in comparison with more accurate facial recognition and longer gate opening correspondingly, so that passengers carrying luggage can operate more calmly, which will effectively ease the long queues.
