Jiangsu kicked off a seal cutting training program for teachers in Nanjing’s primary and middle schools.
As an art form born out of the combination of calligraphy and carving, Chinese seal cutting was once listed - along with calligraphy, painting and poetry - as one of the four essential skills required of an ancient scholar.
The training will have three cohorts for a total of 270 art teachers in 180 primary, middle and vocational schools in Nanjing.
In the new semester, books compiled by the province will be sent to these 180 schools. Student activities will be held in primary schools to expose them to the art form. Middle school students can choose the elective course to learn about seal cutting
