Jiangsu to further reform healthcare system

  East Chinas Jiangsu Province will carry out a series of reforms in health care sector this year, according to the provincial government work report delivered by Governor Wu Zhenglong at the opening ceremony of the annual session of the Provincial Peoples Congress. The reform will involve improving primary medical care, improving medical security, accelerating the campaign of healthy Jiangsu, and helping to integrate medical care and elderly care.

  In recent years, the provincial government has issued a series of measures, including hierarchical medical system, establishing integrated health care system so that patients can turn to community hospitals in case of ailments and be referred to the large hospitals in case of serious illness.

  Peng Zhuyu, a deputy, said the inclusion of closely-knit integrated health care system in the government work report will make it necessary for top hospitals to train more talents so that quality medical resources can reach out to second grade hospitals and community hospitals.

  Zhu Jie, a deputy, felt pleased with the wording in the government work report for the promotion of the TCM. The integration of western medicine and TCM can benefit the people at the grassroots level. He proposed that TCM pharmacies be set up at the township hospitals by means of the Internet plus strategy so that TCM prescriptions can be distributed to the patients through the telemedicining systems.

  The government work report also proposed that the basic subsidy standard for basic public services be increased by 10 yuan.

  Jiangsu will increase 25000 ward beds for nursing homes and provide free medical examination for people at 65 years old and above by 2019, the government work report says.
