A meeting celebrating Nanjing’s residential communities with an exemplary record on inheriting and promoting local place names was held on December 12.

As a role model, Chaotian Palace community shared its experience in promoting and preserving the name of local places in more than five years, under a theme of “making it special, elaborate and authentic”

The Chaotian Palace area, the birthplace of Nanjing civilization, can be traced back to the 5th century BC when Fu Chai, King of the Wu State set up the Yanshan city. Covering nearly 3 square kilometers, it is composed of hundreds of lanes and 24 bridges with more than 200 well-known place names.

Chaotian Palace community has set up at least 2,000 indoor and outdoor “mini-museums” to interpret almost all place names within the community and appropriately made reference to the unique, old place names in Qinhuai District and Nanjing.

At every 500 meters in the community, local residents in the area can come across a mini-museum with a distinct theme, exquisite exhibition and green environment.

Although with different themes, these small museums all introduce the stories behind the name of a place.
