East China’s Jiangsu province has since the start of this year stepped up the efforts to shut down polluting enterprises, free up environmental capacity, boost technological transformation and industrial chain upgrading in a bid to win the battle against pollution prevention and control for the promotion of green transformation with ecological priority and economic high-quality development.
In Binhai County, the chemical industry has always been spearheading local industrial development with invoicing sales of the chemical industry adding up to 70% of the county’s total.
In order to better promote the regional high-quality development, the local authorities have carried out investigation on 124 chemical plants with 51 shutting down as they are not environmentally friendly and fail to meet the standards.
The government has also accelerated the plan for the construction of county-level pharmaceutical industrial parks in a bid to help 73 chemical plants move towards the high end of the industrial chain and value chain.
In the meantime, regional governments across the province have also made targeted measures based on local conditions in a bid to gain further space for green development.The Suzhou Industrial Park, which is home to more than 5,000 industrial enterprises, has since this year adopted a multi-pronged approach by launching a new environmental management partnership plan to eliminate the polluting enterprises so that 889 enterprises will be regulated by the end of next June.
Authorities in Siyang County have shut down 3 chemical plants since this year with an annual goal of phasing out 800 sets of outdated production capacity and promoting the use of 1000 sets of environmental-friendly equipment. 9 enterprises have finalized their energy-saving renovations and introduced policies to promote green development.
