Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, has called for more efforts to inherit and develop the profound cultural traditions that thrived at the Jiangnan area, the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, as the first Jiangnan Context Forum opened in Wuxi City on December 3.
In a written statement to the forum, organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the CPC Wuxi Committee, Lou said Jiangnan culture forms a key part of Chinese culture and plays an increasingly unique, irreplaceable role amid the diversified civilization and culture.
He also said Jiangsu, an important contributor and home to Jiangnan culture in history, shoulders a mission to inherit and develop Jiangnan cultural legacies in the new era.
In a speech at the opening ceremony, Wang Yanwen, member of the standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and also the provincial committee’s publicity chief, said Jiangnan is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, a venue for cultural rejuvenation, a melting pot for southern and northern culture, a poetic site for a better life, and a pivotal starting point for Chines culture to go global.
Wang also said to inherit and develop Jiangnan culture requires an insightful understanding, summary, presentation and communication of the culture essence. The hosting of the forum will be of great significance for writing a new chapter of Jiangnan culture in the new era.
