The Oxford-Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research(OSCAR) was officially launched in Suzhou Industrial Park on November 22.

As Oxford’s first overseas research center for physics and engineering, OSCAR was established by the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division at Oxford and will expand the division’s research and influences. OSCAR is set up in Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District, a district in SIP with a high concentration of science, education and innovation activity. OSCAR building has 20,000 square meters lab, office and exhibition space across nine floors.

Initial research programs will be led by groups from the Oxford University departments of Engineering Science, Physics, Chemistry and Materials, with applications ranging from health informatics, tissue engineering and biomedical imaging to environmental remediation, advanced materials and electronic devices.

Twelve Lead Principle Investigators have been selected to lead research programs at OSCAR. In the selection process, they were asked to explain why working in China benefits their researches.
